Highway closed after fatal crash in southern NSW

A MAN has died following a horror crash between a road train and a tractor on a highway in southern NSW.

The accident happened on the Cobb Highway about six kilometres south of Deniliquin just after 3pm this afternoon.

Paramedics worked frantically to keep the driver of the tractor alive, but the 55-year-old man died at the scene.

The male driver of the heavy vehicle was not injured. He was taken to Deniliquin Hospital for mandatory blood and urine testing.

The Cobb Highway is expected to be closed for a number of hours while specialist forensic officers examine the scene.

Local traffic diversions are in place. Motorists are urged to avoid the area and delay any non-essential travel.
