Hilary Duff confirms ‘Lizzie McGuire’ reboot has been cancelled

This is most definitely not what dreams are made of…

Just when you thought 2020 couldn’t possibly get any worse, Hilary Duff has confirmed the Lizzie McGuire reboot has been canned.

The actress and singer confirmed the sad news with fans on social media on Thursday, posting an emotional statement about the show’s shock shutdown.

“I’ve been so honoured to have the character of Lizzie in my life. She has made such a lasting impact on many, including myself,” she began.

“To see the fans’ loyalty and love for her, to this day, means so much to me. I know the efforts and conversations have been everywhere trying to make a reboot work but, sadly & despite everyone’s best efforts, it isn’t going to happen.

“I want any reboot of Lizzie to be honest and authentic to who Lizzie would be today. It’s what the character deserves.”

The former Disney star continued by writing “We can all take a moment to mourn the amazing woman she would have been and the adventures we would have taken with with her.

“I’m very sad, but I promise everyone tried their best and the stars just didn’t align. Hey now, this is what 2020s made of.”

The post was immediately inundated with comments from fans, who shared their disappointment at the news.

“So sad to hear this, but YOU know Lizzie’s character better than ALL of us. I’m sure she would’ve had MANY excellent adventures with your ideas. We will miss you, Lizzie McGuire!” one person wrote.

“NO LIZZIEEEEEEEE NOOOOO,” commented another.

It’s understood at least two episodes of the revival series had been completed, with the cast sharing a number of behind-the-scenes photos of themselves on set.

Mystery surrounds the cancellation, however a number of reports suggest Disney was not a fan of the “mature” content being covered.
