Historic moment as Australia’s Olympic flag bearers confirmed
History will be made when Australia’s Tokyo Olympics team walks out for the opening ceremony, with Patty Mills to become the first Indigenous flag bearer.
The NBA star and four-time Olympian will carry the flag alongside swimming champion Cate Campbell.
Mills is currently in a pre-Olympics camp in Las Vegas before flying to Tokyo with the Australian team.
“This is really special,” Mills said.
“I’m just really thankful for all of the support up until this moment.
“It’s something that I won’t be able to put into words, what I’m feeling right now.”

Cate Campbell will be the other flag bearer, as the first swimmer since the Moscow Games to do so.
She says it’s an honour and a career highlight.
“It’s right up there amongst one of the greatest things that have happened to me,” Campbell said in Cairns.
“It’s one thing to represent your country in a sport that you love and another thing to represent your Olympians.”
