Holiday traffic causing mayhem on Gold Coast roads

Anyone hitting the road today is being urged to be patient, with holiday traffic causing chaos.

The Pacific Motorway is currently banked up southbound all the way from Springwood to Coomera.

While local roads are also heavily congested, with the Gold Coast Highway through Southport bumper to bumper as hundreds of people head out to enjoy the sunshine.

All three border checkpoints are at a standstill, with traffic continuing to build this afternoon.

Traffic at the M1 checkpoint is well past the border, while the Gold Coast Highway delays are back to the M1.

Wharf Street in the Tweed is also at a crawl.

Motorists heading back to the Sunshine State are being urged to have their border passes ready, to assist with the traffic flow at checkpoints.

More than 560 people have been turned away from the Queensland border since it was closed to Greater Sydney on Tuesday.
