A young boy has sadly died after coming into trouble while swimming in the Cairns Esplanade Lagoon on Saturday.
The 7-year-old, who is believed to have been an overseas tourist, was pulled from the water by lifeguards around 4.00pm.
Paramedics performed CPR on the boy at the scene before he was rushed to the Cairns Hospital in a critical condition.

The Cairns Post confirmed the child’s life support was switched off at midday on Sunday.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
