POLICE are hunting an intruder who broke into a home in the middle of the night and indecently assaulted a sleeping child on the NSW North Coast.
A man in a hooded jumper allegedly broke into the Tamar Street home at Ballina around 2am on Friday.
Police said a young teenage girl woke up to the man standing over her, touching her body.

The man allegedly ran out the back door and the girl woke her mother, who called police.
A quick search of the home also revealed a number of items had been stolen.
Detectives from the Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad are now investigating the incident and are appealing for help from the public to find the intruder.
He is described as being aged in his late 30s or early 40s, of above average height and having an average build and pale complexion.
He was reportedly wearing a light-grey hooded jumper and track pants at the time of the break-in.
