Horror crash critically injures 2, closes Pacific Highway

Two people are in critical condition following a horror crash which has closed the Pacific Highway on the NSW central coast.

The accident occurred just after midday, when a southbound Mitsubishi Magna and northbound Toyota Camry collided on The Pacific Highway at Wadalba.

Police say the male driver of the Magna had to be rescued from the wreckage of the vehicle before being airlifted to John Hunter Hospital with the female front seat passenger. Both are in a critical condition.

Miraculously, a three-year-old child in the back seat escaped uninjured.

The male driver of the Toyota Camry was taken to John Hunter Hospital with leg and chest injuries.

He is understood to be in a stable condition.

The Pacific Highway is closed in both directions while investigations take place.

It is anticipated the road will be closed for a number of hours, with the crash investigation unit to attend and make inquiries.
