Hot conditions hanging around until Christmas

THE MERCURY is quickly rising across the Gold Coast, with scorching temperatures expected today.

Some suburbs could record temperatures pushing 40-degrees, with Nerang expecting a high of 39, according to the Bureau of Meteorology.

It will be a bit cooler in Coolangatta, which has a forecast top of 30. While Surfers Paradise is set to reach 31 and Robina, 34.

At 8am the Seaway was already a warm 25 degrees.

Locals and tourists are reminded to stay hydrated and look out for elderly neighbours.

Babies and pets can also be at risk.

There is the chance of a shower later on this afternoon or overnight.

Conditions will ease on Sunday, with the predicted top temperature for Surfers Paradise 27 degrees.

But, we’re being warned to get used to the heat in the lead up to Christmas, with more hot weather on the forecast over the next four to six weeks.
