Houseboat burns with six on board on the northern GC

A man’s escaped from a burning houseboat on the northern Gold Coast with burns to his shoulder and hands.

The blaze broke out on the 49 foot commercial vessel near the marina on Cabbage Tree Point Road at 6:50pm on Friday night.

He was one of six people who jumped into a dingy to escape the flames.  Gold Coast Water Police also headed to the scene to help.

A Water Police vessel was also used to take Firefighters to the burning boat to extinguish the flames.

A 54-year-old man was transported to Gold Coast University Hospital for treatment.

Marine Safety Authority are investigating.

Initial investigations indicate the fire was caused by a faulty generator.
