It’s time to whip out the running shoes and hit the pavement – because the Village Roadshow Theme Parks Gold Coast Marathon is back and just four months away!
After last year’s event was forced to turn virtual due to the COVID-19 pandemic, organisers have promised this year’s marathon will be better than ever.
It’s set to take place on the weekend of Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 July, with entries officially open from 9:00am on Monday 15 February.

There will be five different events for runners to take part in, including the full 42km marathon, 21km half marathon, 10km run, 5km fun run and junior dash.
Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate said he’s “thrilled” to see the much-loved event back this year.
“The value of this event to the Gold Coast cannot be underestimated,” the Mayor said.
“Every winter for over 40 years, the marathon and associated events have enticed thousands upon thousands of interstate and overseas visitors to escape to the Gold Coast from their colder home climates for an unmatched sports holiday experience.
“While we will miss our international runners this year, by staging a successful event in July the Gold Coast will showcase to the world we are again open for major events business,” he said.
This year’s event will be completely COVID safe, with several crowd management initiatives set to be implemented.
“We have developed extensive plans to balance all the health regulations while providing a world class running experience on course,” Events Management Queensland CEO Cameron Hart said.
“This year we have moved the Half Marathon from the Sunday to the Saturday to spread our crowd more evenly and we’ve cancelled the usual pre-race check-in centre and expo in favour of mailing out race kits.
“We have also implemented wave race starts, and we’ll be providing personal protection equipment to the runners.”
The event will start and finish at the Southport Broadwater Parklands.
