Husband and wife charged with trying to import heroin into Australia

A woman and her husband have been busted trying to import 5kg of heroin into Australia.

The 35-year-old woman from Victoria was selected for a baggage examination after arriving at Adelaide International Airport from Cambodia, via Singapore, on Saturday 15 April.

Upon searching the woman’s bags, Australian Border Force officers discovered a metal free-standing hammock frame. Further examination revealed a substance concealed within the frame, which returned a positive result for heroin.


The woman was arrested and following further investigations, the woman’s husband was also taken into custody at Adelaide International Airport later on Saturday for his alleged role in the importation.

The 42-year-old man will face charges of aiding and abetting the importation of a commercial quantity of border controlled drugs while the 35-year-old woman was charged with importing a commercial quantity of border controlled drugs.

The pair are due to appear in Adelaide Magistrates’ Court today.
