Hydro cannabis set up found after NSW home gutted by fire

Police are guarding a home on the NSW Central Coast after a drug lab was discovered in a home gutted by fire overnight.

Police were conducting an unrelated vehicle stop at Berkeley Vale shortly before 10pm on Sunday, when they saw a nearby house on fire.

Officers tried desperately get get inside the home following claims a man may have been inside but were forced back due to the intensity of the blaze.

Neighbouring homes were evacuated as a precaution.

Once the fire was out, evidence of a hydroponic cannabis crop of up to 500 plants was found inside.

The scene has been preserved overnight and will be forensically examined once it is deemed safe to enter the scene.

There have been no reports of anyone missing from the home.
