‘Hydroponic house’ busted, two men charged

A so-called hydroponic house has been uncovered by police near Wollongong, south of Sydney.

Police raided the property on The Avenue at Mount Saint Thomas around 1pm on Monday, allegedly discovering hundreds of cannabis plants.

Officers seized cash and 246 cannabis plants, which have an estimated potential street value of $496,000.

A 31-year-old man and a 32-year-old man were arrested and taken to Wollongong Police Station where they were charged with large commercial cultivation of a prohibited plant by indoor enhanced means and unauthorised use of electricity.

Both were refused bail to appear before Wollongong Local Court today.
