“I want to hold my grandbabies in my arms one day” Gold Coast mum’s breast cancer battle

The Gold Coast community is rallying around a Coomera mother-of-two who is battling metastatic breast cancer.

Courtney Deffner was diagnosed with the disease in December 2016, and was told by doctors that she had just two to five years to live.

“My husband and I were devastated. My thoughts immediately went to my 2 little girls who were only 5 and 2 1/2 years old at the time,” Courtney said.

After the diagnosis, Courtney made a promise to herself that she would be alive for much longer and has since been treating the cancer with full extract cannabis oil, targeted breast cancer drugs, and some lifestyle and diet changes.

“For almost 2 whole years things were going along so well. My cancer was completely stable and I was completely pain free and managed to get myself off a toxic cocktail of cancer pain meds thanks to full extract cannabis oil,” Courtney said.

However, this year things took a turn for the worst when Courtney found out the cancer had started to “ramp up” in her body.

“2019 however has been a tricky one. We have had continual disease progression, my pain has not been controlled and we have also exhausted all of the targeted therapies for my type of breast cancer. All that remains now is IV chemotherapy.”

“The disease is still thankfully contained in my bones, however many of my bones are now diseased, my cancer markers are rising and blood work is starting to change. Cancer is really starting to ramp up in my body.”

In a bid to be around to watch her daughters grow up and one day hold her grandkids in her arms, Courtney is now hoping to raise enough funds to travel to a holistic cancer clinic in Mexico called HOPE4CANCER and has started a GoFundMe campaign online.

“I am always researching this disease and I have decided to take a leap of faith and head over to MEXICO to Hope 4 Cancer in Cancun. Here they offer cutting edge non-toxic therapies and treatments that support your own bodies natural ability to heal itself,” she said.

“The program at Hope 4 Cancer is 3 weeks long, with intensive therapies 6 days a week.  I will also be given a 3 month supply of take home medicines and therapies, and offered 3, 6 and 12 month follow ups at the clinic.”

Courtney said the cost of the treatment is about $51000USD which is approximately $74500AUD, plus around $4000 for return flights for herself and her husband.

“Due to being diagnosed with a terminal illness I was thankfully able to have early access to my superannuation, however cancer is expensive, and it has been a very costly 2.5 years already,” she said.

“My husband has had to take time off work, we have had to purchase very costly cannabis oil,  as well as pay for various other medications and treatments that I have been doing to try and help heal my body, and so $78,500 is simply not something we can afford without help.”

“Thank you so much for helping us heal my body so I can watch my beautiful girls grow into adults and one day hold some grand babies in my arms!”
