IKEA is recalling a popular range of their child safety gates after receiving multiple reports of the gates opening unexpectedly, causing children to fall down stairs.
In a statement issued on the companies website, the Swedish furniture giant said any customers who have purchased a PATRULL safety gate – models Patrull Klämma and Patrull Fast are urged to immediately stop using it and to bring it back to any IKEA store for a full refund.
“At IKEA, we have a zero tolerance regarding child safety. We want to offer safe and healthy products and we think that children are the most important people in the world,” Maria Thörn, Acting Business Area Manager at Children´s IKEA said.

“Whenever we get indications of a possible safety issue with any of our products, we act. We cannot accept that there is a risk of injury while playing and as an immediate and precautionary action we recall all PATRULL safety gates.”
Following a third party investigation into the complaints, it was revealed the locking mechanism on the gates is not reliable, posing a risk for small children.
IKEA has urged all customers that have purchased the safety gate to bring it back to any IKEA store in New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland or the Australian Capital Territory for a full refund.
Proof of purchase (receipt) is not required.
