Increased security possible for NRL grand final after Sydney shooting

INVESTIGATIONS are continuing into a fatal shooting outside Police headquarters in Sydney.

A Police IT worker was gunned down at “very close range” as he left work at the State Crime Command in Parramatta on Friday afternoon, by a man with a handgun.

Officers returned fire and killed the gunman.

Commissioner Andrew Scipione has confirmed, they are working to determine a motive for the attack and the identity of the lone gunman, who he believes waited to “commit suicide by cop”.

“He remained in the street and was acting quite aggressively … it’s likely he was firing shots,” Mr Scipione said.

He confirmed, security may be beefed up for Sunday’s NRL grand final in nearby Homebush, but insists there is no need for concern as the shooting appeared to be a one-off targeted attack.
