Injured NRL player Alex McKinnon finds ultimate reason to walk again

INJURED Newcastle Knights player Alex McKinnon has set himself the ultimate goal.

A week after being told he may spend the rest of his life in a wheelchair, the 22-year-old has taken to social media to announce his engagement to his childhood sweetheart.

He’s also vowed to walk Teigan Power down the aisle.

News.com.au reports, McKinnon made the announcement last night on Instagram from his hospital bed in Melbourne where he is recovering from a broken neck.

“This girl is my soldier, I am truly overwhelmed with the support and wishes from everybody in the rugby league society and the community at large. Your ongoing support will never be forgotten,” he posted.

“PS. When life throws you struggles respond with a smile. So happy to announce Teigan and my engagement. #throughthickandthin #iwillwalkherdowntheisle.”

The couple have been together for six years and Teigan has kept a bedside vigil with the injured footballer since his accident during a three-man tackle against Melbourne in round three.
