Injured Richard Hammond shows off ‘Swiss Army knee’ from hospital bed
Much loved British TV presenter Richard Hammond has thanked medical staff after his lucky escape from a fiery car crash while filming for The Grand Tour in the Swiss alps.
The former Top Gear host was airlifted to hospital on the weekend after his electric super car sped off the road and burst into flames.
The incident was described by co-host Jeremy Clarkson as “the biggest crash I’ve ever seen and the most frightening”.
Hammond, 47, managed to climb out of the vehicle before it erupted into flames, and was flown by Air Ambulance to hospital in St Gallen.
He suffered a fracture to his knee and overnight has posted a video online showing off his ‘Swiss Army knee’ from his hospital bed.

He also apologised to his wife and children for again coming close to death. In 2006 Hammond suffered life-threatening head injuries in a high-speed crash while filming for Top Gear and spent two weeks in a coma.
