Inmate charged with planning terror attack in NSW jail

AN inmate at a prison in NSW has been charged with terrorism offences after he was allegedly caught planning a terrorist attack while behind bars.

The 19-year-old man was charged after officers allegedly seized material from his cell at Goulburn Correctional Facility.

This morning, he was arrested and transported to Goulburn Police Station where he was charged with making a document connected with preparation for a terrorist act and doing an act in preparation for or planning a terrorist act.


He was also charged with an additional offence of delivering a document threatening to kill a person.

After being charged, the 19-year-old was returned to the correctional facility where he is currently on remand for other matters.

Police stress there is no current threat to the community as a result of today’s activity.

The 19-year-old inmate will face Sydney Central Local Court on 12 October.
