Inmate dies after altercation with guards at SA prison

An indigenous inmate has died following a violent altercation with guards at Yatala Labour Prison.

Police said that on Friday 23 September, the 29-year-old inmate was rushed to the Royal Adelaide Hospital following an incident at the prison.

After spending the weekend in a serious condition in hospital, he passed away in the early hours of this morning, SA Police confirmed.

Detectives from South Australia’s Police Corrections Section, with assistance from Major Crime Detectives are investigating the incident.
