Inmates hospitalised after fire rips through NSW prison

A FIRE has ripped through a prison in Sydney, injuring two inmates and causing half-a-million dollars in damage.

It’s understood the blaze broke out in the laundry of the Silverwater Correctional Facility shortly after 7.30pm last night.

Fire crews worked hard to battle the inferno, which was extinguished around three hours later.

The fire is estimated to have caused more than $500,000 in damage to the facility.

Early investigations suggest the fire was not deliberately lit.
