A brand new playground is now open on the Gold Coast that not only challenges children’s bodies but their minds as well.
The innovative playground is located at The Surrounds at Helensvale and gives kids the chance to enjoy a tactile and sensory adventure with plenty of play elements.
Villawood Properties engaged landscape architect Simon Stantiall, and the team at Gold Coast firm SMEC, to design a playground that promotes health, childhood development and community connectedness.

“We worked hard to find a feature or statement piece of play equipment that is a bit unusual and allows for open-ended play to entice families back to it again and again,” Mr Stantiall said.
“A large, double climbing cube-type structure with various access and climbing points, leading to three different tube slides has been selected for The Surrounds.
“Children will be able to navigate across the structure towards multiple slide destinations, allowing for ever-changing routes and pathways at each attempt. At the same time, it is integrated with nest swings and balance beams below for younger children.
“This creates a playground and park that are not simply a distraction for kids, but a destination for the whole family.”
The modern playground is located in a huge 7,300sqm central park at The Surrounds, which will also be home to a future leisure centre, café and pool.
Villawood Properties Executive Director Tony Johnson said the focus of modern playground and park design was on integrating elements that will appeal to all ages and skill levels.
“The key to our parks is providing a number of interactive components set within carefully planned landscaping that creates spaces for everyone, whether they want to relax, kick a footy, catch up with friends, or have a picnic,” he said
