Interest rates on hold for ninth consecutive month

THE Reserve Bank has kept interest rates on hold at the record low of 2.5 per cent for the ninth month in a row.

The RBA says public spending is set to remain subdued after the decision.

The Australian dollar rose to 93.12 US cent, up from 92.82, following the announcement on Tuesday.

Economists are predicting rates could rise by the end of the year.
