Investigations continue after fatal crash over the border

Investigations continue following a fatal crash in the state’s north yesterday.

About 2.45pm, (Wednesday 15 July 2015), a Mitsubishi Magna station wagon was travelling in an easterly direction along the Tweed Valley Way.

At the same time, a light truck was travelling west along the same road, when the two vehicles collided in the west-bound lane, near the intersection of Riverside Drive.

Emergency services were called; however the female driver of the station wagon, aged 55, died at the scene.

The driver of the truck, a 43-year-old man, was taken to Tweed Hospital to be treated for minor injuries, and for mandatory blood and urine testing.

Police have received no further reports of injury.

A crime scene was established and the Tweed Valley Way was closed for a number of hours.

As investigations into the incident continue, officers attached to Tweed Byron Local Area Command are appealing for any witnesses who have not yet spoken to police to come forward and contact Crime Stoppers.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
