Investigations into suspicious Gold Coast brothel blaze heat up

Police investigating a deliberately lit fire which destroyed a well-known Gold Coast brothel, are appealing for anyone with dashcam vision or information to come forward.

Emergency crews were called to the massive inferno at Silks at Upton in Bundall about 4.30am on November 10.

However by the time emergency services arrived on scene it was too late, with the building already engulfed in flames.

The fire is understood to have broken out just 30 minutes after the business closed its doors, with thankfully no one inside the building at the time.

A crime scene was immediately established and investigations have been ongoing ever since, with police revealing initial investigations suggest the fire was “deliberately started inside the premises”.

“Two large barrels were located near the entrance of the building,” Queensland Police said on Thursday.

Investigators are now appealing for anyone who may have dashcam vision and was driving along Upton Street, Racecourse Drive or Crombie Avenue between 4am and 4:45am on November 10 to please come forward.

“The area includes a number of industrial depots and police believe several truck and delivery drivers may have been in the vicinity,” police said.

Investigations are ongoing.
