Boy to receive ‘informal caution’ after making false police report

UPDATE @ 1.10pm: A boy will be spoken to by a Youth Liaison Officer after making a false police report.

The 12-year-old boy alleged he was approached by an unknown man on Park Avenue at Swansea yesterday, however the child later admitted the incident did not occur, police said in a statement.

The boy is likely to receive an informal caution.

EARLIER @ 7.30am: Police are looking for a man after a frightening child approach outside a highschool in the Lake Macquarie region.

It’s understood that between 9.00am and 9.20am, a 12-year-old boy was standing outside the school on Park Avenue at Swansea, when a vehicle stopped in front of him.

“The driver engaged the child in conversation which caused the boy to feel uncomfortable,” police said in a statement.

The boy ran away and reported the incident to the school, who then contacted police.

The man has been described as Caucasian appearance, aged in his mid to late 40s, short hair, a close cropped beard, with an Australian accent.

The car has been described as a four wheel drive, possibly an 80s model Toyota Landcruiser or Mitsubishi Pajero, brown or burgundy coloured, with roof racks, a bull bar, and chrome rims.
