Is this the end of snail mail?

Not the best news for our national postal service.

Australia Post has posted its first loss in more than 30 years.

An Australia Post statement revealed the company had posted a full year loss of $222 million and blamed a continual decline in letter volumes for the disappointing 2015 financial year result, which puts the company in the red after a $116.2m profit a year ago.

Letter volumes fell 7.3 per cent with losses in the mail business growing to $381m.

In June, Australia Post flagged the culling of around 1,900 jobs over the next three years in voluntary redundancies.
