It’s a girl! Serena welcomes another strong female to the Williams’ clan
Serena Williams isn’t even on court at the US Open, but she’s still managed to steal focus from the event.
The 23-time Grand Slam winner, who has four sisters, has given birth to a baby girl.
US Weekly reports, the 35-year-old welcomed the 2.8kg (6lb 13oz) bundle of joy at a hospital in Palm Beach, Florida, on Friday.
It’s the first child for the former world No.1 and fiancé, Reddit cofounder Alexis Ohanian. The couple got engaged in December.
Williams accidentally announced her pregnancy in a Snapchat photo on April 19 when she posted a selfie with a caption that she was “20 weeks” pregnant.
She later revealed she had learned of the ‘unexpected pregnancy’ just days before winning the Australian Open for a record seventh time, in January.
Upon news of her new arrival, the US Open posted a video to its Twitter page, with messages of congratulations from current and former players.
Congratulations to @serenawilliams for giving birth to a baby girl!
