The decision to buy a lotto ticket for the first time has paid off handsomely for a Helensvale mum who has become the Gold Coast’s latest millionaire.
The lucky woman was one of five winning entries in Saturday’s Gold Lotto draw and takes home a cool $1,303,213.75.
The woman revealed she only bought the ticket by chance after some advice from a checkout operator when her groceries added up to exactly $20.

“The woman at the checkout told me that never happens and to buy myself a lottery ticket, so I did!
“And that was the winning one. It is unbelievable.
“It couldn’t have happened at a better time!”
The woman told Lott officials that she only checked her ticket after hearing that someone who purchased an entry in Nerang had won.
She says she plans to buy a house with her winnings.
“This will change my life dramatically, in the best way imaginable.
“It means the financial security that I have always dreamt of.”
The woman is the 13th first division lotto prize winner on the Gold Coast this year taking winnings on the Glitter Strip to $49 million.
The winning entry was purchased at the newsXpress newsagency in Nerang.
Owner Lisa Li said they are thrilled for the lucky winner.
“I almost fell over when I heard we had sold another division one winning entry!” she exclaimed.
“I was so happy for our winner and also our staff to be part of the excitement.
