James Packer resigns from Crown Resorts board amid “mental health issues”

High profile Australian billionaire James Packer has resigned as a director of his company Crown Resorts as he battles “mental health issues”.

The company has today confirmed the shock move, in a brief statement to the Australian Securities Exchange.

“We have appreciated James’ contribution to the Board and respect his decision to step down from his role as a director at this time,” executive chairman John Alexander said.


While the 50-year-old’s private investment company Consolidated Press Holdings revealed he is taking some much-needed time off.

“Mr Packer is suffering from mental health issues,” a spokesman for the company said in a separate statement.

“At this time he intends to step back from all commitments.”
