Jason Day falters at the WGC event in the US

Jason Day has tripped and fallen at the final hurdle, losing his bid to win the World Golf Championships Bridgestone Invitational in Ohio.

The world number one sounded confident over the weekend, telling reporters he thought he could win.

But sitting at seven-under with four holes remaining, the Beaudesert local missed a four-foot putt on the 15th.

He followed that up with a double bogey seven on the 16th.

America’s Dustin Johnson came from behind to win his third World Golf Championship event, posting a four-under-66 final round score.

The victory also moves him to number three in the world golf rankings.
