Jason Day forced out of PGA Tour Championship

Beaudesert golfer Jason Day has pulled out of the PGA Tour Championship in Atlanta.

The World Number One was three shots off the pace but his ball landed in the water on the eighth hole.  Then while hitting from the rough he found some trees.

After he failed to make the green on the next shot he simply picked up his ball and walked back to the clubhouse.

We later learned his back injury, from a couple of weeks ago, had flared up again.

It means Day misses out on claiming $US11.53 million.

Day told PGATOUR.com “Just not enough time to get it rested,” as he left.

His management team said in a statement “Jason has a strained ligament in his lower right back with muscle spasm”.

“He withdrew as a precautionary measure.  Jason should be fine with some rest after a long break in the off-season.”

Day is due to return to the Australian summer of golf in November.
