Jetpack Adventures vies for gold at Qld Tourism Awards

Gold Coast based Jetpack Adventures is one of 156 tourism operators hoping for gold at the annual Queensland Tourism Awards on Friday 13th November.

Earmarked as the world’s newest product in adventure water sports, Jetpack Adventures is in the running for the Adventure Tourism category. Manager Ritchie Gregg said he hoped entering the Queensland Tourism Awards would provide further exposure for his already booming business.

“The Southern Hemisphere’s first jetpack arrived in Australia in early 2011 and a year later the Gold Coast was the first Queensland location to launch a Jetpack Hire Centre,” Mr Gregg said. “With a large majority of Australia’s tourism-based activities based near or on the water, we saw an obvious gap in the water-sports market for tourists, thrill seekers and families alike and took the opportunity to open our first business.

“Each ‘Jetpack’, ‘Flyboard’ (jet boots) and ‘Jetovator’ (jet bike) uses 5,000 litres of water per minute to propel users into the air and is a highly versatile, challenging experience regardless of weight, gender or physical ability.

“This summer Jetpack Adventures will officially launch the ‘Freedom Flyer’, designed for persons living with disabilities including blind, deaf and special assistance users. It will open a new market for us we and we will be the first operator in the world to offer this service, right here on the Gold Coast.”

QTIC Chief Executive Daniel Gschwind said this year has yet again attracted the Gold Coast’s proudest tourism operators, giving the industry good reason to be positive about the strength and future direction of Queensland’s tourism industry.

“This year’s Queensland Tourism Awards have once again proven to be a catalyst for drawing out and promoting excellence within the Gold Coast’s tourism industry, giving our judges a really tough task of deciding between our contenders in each category,” Mr Gschwind said.

Gold, Silver and Bronze winners from the 30 Queensland Tourism Awards categories will be announced on Friday 13th November in Brisbane. Queensland’s Gold Award winners will gain automatic entry into the Australian Tourism Awards to be announced in Melbourne on 5th February 2016.
