Good news for jet-setters, with a new flight route to launch between the Gold Coast and Hobart today.
Jetstar has announced it will bring on the new flights from December, following confirmation that Tasmania’s borders will be open to most states from October 26.
There will be three return services a week, which will provide more than 1,200 seats between the two cities each week.

It’s expected to create around 90 local jobs, and pump around $11 million into the economy.
Jetstar Group CEO, Gareth Evans, says they’re very excited to launch the service.
“It’s great help to be able to reconnect family and friends and give more people the opportunity for a holiday after what has been tough period for many.
“This new service will also help to boost tourism in the Gold Coast and Hobart, creating jobs and supporting the local economy, and means more of our people are back at work, which is great news too.
To celebrate the new route, Jetstar is having a flash sale at midday today which will include 1,500 fares from just $89.
The fares will be available for different travel periods between December and June 2021.
It’s the first time we’ve had a direct flight route with Tasmania since 2013.
Queensland’s Tourism Minister Kate Jones says the coronavirus crisis has provided a good opportunity.
“What we’ve seen is a lot of competition in the skies, where with the lack of aircraft, many airlines have been putting their planes on the most profitable routes.
“What we’ve seen with Covid-19 is an opportunity to bring back this flight between Hobart and the Gold Coast, and Jetstar and the government expect that it will absolutely sell like hot cakes.
“So many people have not been able to travel, but because we’ve been able to keep Queenslanders safe, it is now our opportunity to see not only people from Hobart, but people from the Gold Coast taking advantage of these $89 tickets between the two cities,” Minister Jones said.
The sale ends at midday (AEDT) October 8 unless sold out prior.
