The elite international athletes will be fighting for vital WTS championship points but for the Aussies, the Jewel World Triathlon Gold Coast has the added pressure of doubling as the first qualifying race for team selection for the “Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games” next April.
On Saturday 8 April, 2017, the elite WTS fields, the paratriathletes and the Mixed Team Relay will all race the Jewel World Triathlon Gold Coast on a new course at Mitchell Park, Southport.

Then on Sunday 9 April, the age group individual and team competitors will be putting it all on the line in the Jewel Gold Coast Triathlon – Luke Harrop Memorial, the Gold Coast Enticer and Gold Coast Superkidz races.
Five time ITU World Champion Javier Gomez heads up a stunning men’s field that includes Olympic bronze medallist Henri Schoeman and the form athletes of the early 2017 season Richard Murray (RSA) and emerging superstar Jake Birtwhistle (AUS). The Aussie contingent also contains Rio Olympians Ryan Fisher and Ryan Baillie and youngsters Matt Baker, Marcel Walkington and Mooloolaba World Cup winner Luke Willian.
The women’s race has an equally star studded line up, with WTS Abu Dhabi winner Andrea Hewitt (NZ) headlining a field that includes Flora Duffy (BER) winner of 2016 ITU World Triathlon Grand Final in Cozumel, Aussie Olympians Ashleigh Gentle and Emma Jackson and Australia’s highest ranked WTS athlete in 2016, Charlotte McShane.
Also flying the green and gold are the newest kids on the block, Gillian Backhouse (6th in Abu Dhabi) and Emma Jeffcoat, keen to impress after a 4th place in ITU Mooloolaba World Cup and a win at ITU Oceania Champs in Devonport.
