Jewellery shop worker ‘pistol whipped’ in violent Gold Coast armed robbery

A female worker has been hit across the face with a gun in a terrifying armed robbery at a jewellery store on the Gold Coast this afternoon.

Two men armed with a gun and hammer smashed their way into the store at Ashmore Plaza on Cotlew Street just before 3.00pm.

One man entered the store and made demands for jewellery, while the second man held people outside at gunpoint.

A Queensland Police spokesperson confirmed to myGC that the female worker was slapped across the face with the butt of the firearm by the first man.

She sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene by paramedics.

The pair, who were wearing masks and dark clothing, stole a quantity of jewellery from the shop.

They then fled the scene in a blue commodore, driven by a third man, which was later found abandoned nearby.

The three men remain on the run.

Members of the public are being urged not to approach the men if they see them, and call police immediately.

Police investigations are continuing.
