Johnathan Thurston has reportedly set a retirement date

Jonathon Thurston has reportedly revealed when he plans on retiring from rugby league.

Speaking exclusively to the The Courier-Mail, Thurston said he will retire from rep football following the World Cup in October 2017, but will remain playing with the Cowboys until the end of 2018.

Thurston, who will play his 35th consecutive Origin game tonight, said he has already informed North Queensland of his plans.“I have indicated to the club I will be stepping down after the World Cup.

“If I have that last year in 2018 I want to make sure I am enjoying it and I think that would be the best way to go, to step away from rep football.”
