Julie Bishop’s use of emoji icons questioned at Senate Hearing

The Senates Estimates Hearing continues with further “interesting” questioning from Senator Penny Wong.

Today she’s focused on the use of a red-faced emoji that Foreign Minister Julie Bishop used describe Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Meanwhile, she thinks Russian President Vladimir Putin is embodied in the red-faced angry man.

It was used during an SMS interview Ms Bishop did with Buzz Feed.

Senator Wong questioned why the red angry face was used to describe President Putin, did it imply that we don’t like him or we’re angry at him?

DFAT officials said they would take the question on notice, meaning they would investigate it and respond at a later date.
