V8 SUPERCARS champion Rick Kelly says he has no doubt a second South Australian event at Tailem Bend would be a success — for the sport, drivers and fans.
The Advertiser last week revealed early plans lodged by the Peregrine Corporation for an ambitious $40-million overhaul of the SA Motorsport Park outside Tailem Bend.
The facility is to include a purpose-built track suitable for Australia’s peak V8 Supercars category as well as a drag strip, aerodrome runway, four-wheel-drive and rally tracks, 100-room hotel, caravan park and camp grounds.
Nissan pilot Kelly, the 2006 drivers champion, said the popularity of Adelaide’s inner-city Clipsal 500 meant drivers and teams would eagerly support any push for a second event in SA.
