Kidnapping and wounding charges laid over alleged attack on Kirra jogger

A 20-year-old man is set to front court today on multiple charges over an alleged kidnapping attempt of a morning jogger in Kirra yesterday.

The man allegedly tried to grab the woman along Marine Parade around 5.30 am, when she fought back and he then sliced her forearm with a knife.

The 34-year-old woman was hospitalised in a stable condition with a 6-centimetre wound.

Police spent most of the morning trying to track the man down, eventually finding him on the beachfront in Coolangatta.

The man has since been charged with attempted armed robbery, attempted kidnapping, one count of wounding and possessing a knife in a public place.

He’s due to front Southport Magistrates Court today.
