Kids among nine injured after ute flips in bushland near Lithgow

POLICE are investigating the circumstances surrounding a horror single-vehicle crash which left nine people injured near Lithgow at the weekend.

A utility crashed and rolled along the Glowworm Tunnel Road in the Newnes State Forest at Newnes Plateau just after midday on Sunday.

Police have been told eight people were in the tray of the vehicle and four people were inside the cab at the time.

In all, nine people were treated at the scene by paramedics for various injuries, including chest injuries, broken legs, arms and a shattered pelvis.

Among the injured was 14-year-old boy and two children aged eight and 12, both of whom were airlifted to the Westmead Children’s Hospital.

The crash site was declared a crime scene which was examined by forensic crash investigators.

Officers from the Crash Investigation Unit continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
