Kim smashes Scott’s record with Players Championship victory

Young South Korean golfer Si Woo Kim has become the youngest winner of the Players Championship, smashing the record previously held by Adam Scott.

The 21-year-old finished at 10-under after firing a bogey-free final round at TPC Sawgrass on Monday morning, claiming a three-shot victory over England’s Ian Poulter and South Africa’s Louis Oosthuizen.

Spain’s Rafael Cabrera-Bello shared fourth place at six under with American Kyle Stanley.

Scott was the best placed Australian, finishing in a tie for sixth at five-under.

The Gold Coaster had held the record as the youngest winner of the US PGA event in 2004, when he won aged 23 years, 8 months, and 12 days.

Fellow Queenslander and world no.3 Jason Day didn’t even come close to making the leaderboard, recording seven-over for the tournament.

It was a horror final round for Day, scoring two-over through his first nine holes before a disastrous quadruple-bogey nine at the 16th and a double-bogey at the famous par-3 17th to score eight over for the round.
