Roman Police took to Facebook on August 3 to share the heartwarming story about two of their officers.
In the post, they explained that police were called out to a unit block in Rome after neighbours reported hearing loud crying and screaming.

However upon arrival officers weren’t confronted with a crime, instead they were greeted by a lonely elderly couple, who had just finished watching the news and were concerned and saddened by the current events taking place in the world, so much so that they were brought to tears.
“There is not a crime. Jole and Michele are not victims of scams and no thief entered the house — there is no one to save,” the post reads.
“This time, for the boys, there is a more daunting task – two lonely souls who need reassuring.”
“Life is not always easy, especially when the city empties and the neighbors are away on holiday. Sometimes loneliness dissolves into tears. Sometimes it’s like a summer storm, it suddenly overwhelms you.”
“Jole and Michele love each other. But when loneliness is a burden on the heart, it can happen that they lose hope. It can happen, like this time, when their despair makes them scream so loud that eventually, someone calls the State Police.”

Acknowledging that the couple were in need of a little company and love, while waiting for paramedics to arrive to assess the pair for any medical needs, the police officers cooked them a warm meal – spaghetti with butter and cheese.
“And while waiting for the ambulance to verify that the spouses are okay, they understand that just a little bit of warmth will bring peace to Jole and Michele,” they wrote.

Finishing the post, police wrote that while the meal was ‘nothing special’ it contained a precious ingredient: Humanity.
