With the assistance of the dog squad, officers conducted an extensive search of the area for the man but to no avail.
Then, around 4.30am, police were again called to the Hawkesbury Close home after the man returned.
Police said the man was armed with a knife and had started damaging property at the address.
As officers arrived, the armed man allegedly barricaded himself inside the house and refused to surrender to police.
Officers negotiated with the man for almost two hours, but police say he refused to comply with their directions.
Police said the 21-year-old man attempted to leave the house around 6.18am, at which time he was confronted by officers.
The 21-year-old was eventually detained and taken into custody following a struggle with police.
He is currently under police guard in hospital.
