A woman has been arrested and charged after she allegedly tried robbing a fast food store at knife-point on the Gold Coast overnight.

Police say the 30-year-old woman was armed with a knife and wearing a mask when she stormed the Karbunya Street store at Mermaid Waters around 8pm.

Employees refused to comply with the woman’s demands for money, instead used a sign to push her out of the store.

She rode off on a bicycle empty handed but was detained by members of the public a short distance away.

The woman was arrested and has since been charged with attempted armed robbery and is expected to front Southport Magistrates Court on 28 December.

Fortunately, no one was physically harmed during the incident.
