Police investigating suspicious car fire near Gold Coast school

Smokey scenes in Southport this morning, after a car burst into flames near St Hilda’s school.

Emergency services were called to the scene on Cougal Street shortly before 6am, where they arrived to a black Toyota land cruiser car completely engulfed in flames.

Worried locals and employees in the area watched on, as fire fighters took less than 20 minutes to fully extinguish the blaze.

No patients have been reported injured, though Police are still investigating what may have caused the flames.

A video sent in from a spectator shows the large vehicle well engulfed in flames, with the windscreen wipers on.

Police believe the vehicle was stolen, and are asking anyone with information to come forward.
