‘Large number’ of Gold Coast residents evacuated after midnight laundry fire

Residents of a Varsity Lakes building have had to be evacuated in the middle of the night after a fire broke out in a laundry.

Emergency services rushed to the property along Lake Orr Drive just before 1.00am, following reports of the blaze.

It broke out in the laundry room, but forced the evacuation of a ‘large number of people’, according to Queensland Ambulance.

A man in his 20s was assessed at the scene for smoke inhalation and minor lacerations to his hands.

Luckily, he did not require hospitalisation.

No other injuries were reported.
