Leg bone found in Seaway belongs to teen drowning victim
POLICE have confirmed that a human leg bone found in the Gold Coast Seaway two months ago belongs to a teenage girl who went missing while swimming in the area two years ago.
Katelyn Hyland, 16, disappeared after she became caught in a rip near the sand-pumping jetty on February 16, 2012.
In April this year, a spear-fisherman found a female femur bone near the northern wall of the Seaway entrance.
After two months of forensic work, police have confirmed it belongs to Katelyn.
Her family were told of the news on Friday.
