Less popular sports a Commonwealth Games hit

Commonwealth Games organisers say they have been pleasantly surprised at the level of interest people have taken in less-popular sports.

More than 1.2 million potential spectators have lodged their application for tickets which will now be drawn from a ballot.

Games Corporation C-E-O Mark Peters says there were some unexpected results.

“We have some pleasant surprises for some sports that aren’t that well known in Australia,” he said.

“Badminton, table tennis.. we saw oversubscription to their finals which was very pleasing.”
