Gold Coast commuters will be happy to learn work is soon to begin on Stage Two of the Light Rail.
The connection, from Griffith University to the Helensvale train station, might mean increased traffic woes for drivers thanks to roadworks in the short-term, but it’s hoped to get more cars off the road in the long-term.
Mayor Tom Tate has confirmed, construction will begin in early July.

“(It means) we’re on track to see the vital Stage Two of the Light Rail completed before the (2018) Commonwealth Games,” Cr Tate said.
The extension will generate up to 1,000 direct and indirect jobs during construction and operation.
The connection to the heavy rail is expected to help increase commuters numbers.
